Smith in command. During her voyage Titanic struck an iceberg on April and sank two hours and minutes later on April . Only people survived of a total people. Many died from hypothermia in the extremely cold water. At the time the passenger liner was generally regarded as unsinkable because of the advanced technology on board and the experienced crew at hand. Titanic was a White Star Line ocean liner built at Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast Ireland . It was intended to be the largest most luxurious ship and designed to compete with Lusitania and Mauretania from rival company Cunard Line. Titanic had an onboard swimming pool a gymnasium a Turkish bath two libraries and a squash! court. The wreck of the Titanic was discovered in by a team led by Robert Ballard. In Titanic directed by James Cameron and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet was released. It became the highest grossing film in history and won Academy Awards.
